team of players from Borrowdale, Alexandra and Avondale Sports Club in the final.
Roy Garden, Tom Craven, Manuel Silva, Richie Hayden and Clive Robertson made a good name at the tournament, which they felt was a good start in their preparations for the World Championships.
Garden was the overall winner with 90 points, while Hayden settled for the second position with 78 points.
Kerry Craven of Alexandra Sports Club got the fifth place with 57 points while Robertson settled for the sixth place after amassing 53 points.
The bowling national team skipper Garden said taking part at the ‘5’s was a good team practice.
“It was a good team build up although as individuals we still have to get more personal training and bowling. The stronger we are the more we give ourselves many chances of doing well during our bigger events.
“The greens are very faster in Australia and we have to brush up our techniques,” said Garden.
Gynn Bithell the tournament organiser said she was happy with the turnout and noted that it was a good event that gave the new players an opportunity to showcase the talent.
“We were very happy with the turnout the bowlers played in good spirit, we had many new players to the tournament and it was good that they got a chance to play. It does not come on a regular basis so it was such a good event and moment for the new young players,” said Bithell.
They were 16 teams taking part with 80 participants taking part. The ‘5’s tournament is held annually at City Bowling Club during the first week of October.
