A NUMBER of Zimbabwean hip-hop artistes will this month hold a series of gigs in Harare as part of a campaign for the forthcoming annual hip-hop awards.
The gigs are meant to raise funds for the awards ceremony to be held in December and featuring some of the big names on the hip-hop scene.
Hip-hop Awards director and founder Aldrian “Beefy” Harrison said the gigs were meant to attract sponsorship to develop the genre.
“We have organised events to promote the hip-hop genre which we think is on the rise.
“Local artistes are working hard to improve on the quality of their music. There is so much work to be done for us to improve our music scene hence we call on all artistes to be part of the gigs that we have lined up,” said Beefy.
Hip-hop continues to grow like other genres. There has been overwhelming response from fans across the country.
Award-winning hip-hop artiste Tatenda Nziramasanga affectionately known as Tatae Da MC vowed to take the hip-hop music to dizzy heights.
He said his camp was ready for the much hyped awards.
“On behalf of MMT, I feel honoured to be part and parcel of one of the most successful cliques doing wonders and trendsetting for the future hip-hop generation.
“All is set for the awards and be warned that no man can take a leading stride from the MMT,” said Tatae Da MC.
Rumour has it that there were looming factions amongst hip-hop artistes, but the artistes quickly dismissed the talk which was doing the rounds citing misconception.
Organisers of the awards said all was set for the “classy” celebratory gigs and the hip-hop awards which are likely to be held at the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale during the first week of December.
The line-up for the gigs is likely to include on-fire Junior Brown and Tehn Diamond (Few Kings), Tatae Da MC, MC Cut and Mariachi (MMT), Xnder, Young Nash, Boi Mac, Ill Cee, Alvina and Trae Yung.
