ZIMUTO High School’s debate club will be representing the country at the Pan African University Debating Competitions in Lome, Togo, in December.
The Masvingo school’s debate team will be competing against other schools from South Africa, Mozambique and Ghana in the nine-day event from December 2-11.
Zimuto High debate patron, Paidamoyo Machaya Dirwai, said they were “grateful for our learners’ exhibition beyond the school premises, mostly beyond Zimbabwean borders”.
The debate club, which comprises Verspace Makadho, Solace Zunza, Theophelus Beans and Nicole Jirivengwa, succeeded in their provisional participations on public speaking and debating competitions held earlier in the year.
“Zimbabwe is competing under SECTA British Parliamentary Debating at Lome University in Togo.
“It will be a historic experience to watch our students speaking their minds on various contemporary issues affecting the nation and globe at large on an international stage,” Dirwai said.
