Historic Rugby upset: New Zealand suffers the heaviest defeat ever

New Zealand faced a shock in Wellington as South Africa crushed them 43-10 in the Rugby Championship. The All Blacks, who led 10-7 at halftime, could not keep up in the second half. The Springboks scored six tries and 36 points without reply.

This result marks New Zealand’s heaviest-ever Test defeat, surpassing their previous record 21-point losses to Australia in 1999 and 2019. They also fell 35-7 to South Africa in a 2023 warm-up at Twickenham.

South Africa’s historic triumph over New Zealand

South Africa’s win came from bold, brave play. Captain Siya Kolisi said, ‘I give credit to my boys – we didn’t give up. And to the coach Rassie Erasmus as well. We played fearlessly. We didn’t want to hold back. We knew what we needed to do and we believed in ourselves – that was the most important thing out there.’ Their precise play in key moments, like tracking points in a game or checking Bitcasino live RTP for fairness, kept them ahead of New Zealand.

The Springboks showed their strength in the second half. Cheslin Kolbe scored two tries, showing speed and skill. Manie Libbok added five conversions and a penalty, keeping South Africa in full control. New Zealand made errors and could not match the pace. Line-out faults and missed tackles cost them points.

Key performers and game-changing moments

Cheslin Kolbe and Manie Libbok were key in the match. Kolbe’s two tries, including an intercept from his own half, stunned New Zealand, while Libbok added points from five conversions and a penalty.

RG Snyman and Andre Esterhuizen also scored for South Africa. On New Zealand’s side, Leroy Carter scored on debut, and Damian McKenzie added a penalty and conversion early, but it was not enough. South Africa’s fast passes, strong runs, and tough defence left little chance for a comeback, punishing every mistake.

Implications for the Rugby Championship standings

The result reshaped the Rugby Championship table. Australia now lead with 11 points, holding a slim one-point advantage over both South Africa and New Zealand. Argentina trails just two points further back. With two rounds remaining, South Africa will take on Argentina, while New Zealand will face Australia.

‘We’ve got the right to fight for the Rugby Championship. It’s open now, and that’s what matters to us,’ said Springboks captain Siya Kolisi.

Every match will be crucial in the title race. The Springboks’ ability to strike quickly and defend strongly gives them a solid chance heading into the decisive rounds.

Argentina edges past Australia in a nail-biting finish

In Sydney, Argentina held off Australia for a tight 28-26 win. Fly-half Santiago Carreras scored 23 points from seven penalties and one conversion. Julian Montoya, in his 112th Test and 50th as captain, scored the only try for Argentina, showing the value of skill and timing, much like knowing when to use a Bitcasino bonus for the best play.

Australia tried to fight back, with Andrew Kellaway and Filipo Daugunu scoring three late tries, but it was not enough. ‘This time we won, but I think we make it tough for ourselves sometimes. Australia is a great team, and I’m really proud of the way we fought. Still a lot of things to improve, but we need to enjoy winning as well,’ Montoya said. The match showed how focus, fast play, and smart moves matter in tight games.
