HISTORY BECKONS FOR SAUL

SAUL Chaminuka could make history this year as the FIRST coach to guide two clubs to relegation in the same season.

The veteran coach was in charge of Kwekwe United in their first nine league games before joining Dynamos where he has been in charge for a similar number of matches.

The two clubs occupy the last two slots on the Castle Lager Premiership table.

It’s also the first time in their history that DeMbare have signed a coach, who was in charge of the bottom club, to come and coach the Glamour Boys.

Ironically, both Kwekwe United and DeMbare have had a game abandoned during Chaminuka’s time in charge.

Kwekwe United’s game against Herentals was abandoned after the hosts failed to raise a team while Chaminuka was the choir leader as DeMbare walked off the pitch in their abandoned game against FC Platinum.

With the destiny of that abandoned match at Mandava yet to be determined, it leaves Chaminuka with nine games at Dynamos and nine games at Kwekwe United.

And, this is where it gets messy for Saul.

Kwekwe United won just ONE of the NINE matches they played under the guidance of Chaminuka while Dynamos have also won just ONE of the NINE matches in which the coach has been in charge.

Kwekwe United drew four games under Chaminuka, the same number of games Dynamos have drawn under the same coach while both teams lost three games.

Kwekwe United had picked SEVEN out of 27 points by the time Chaminuka left while Dynamos have picked SEVEN out of 27 points since Chaminuka’s arrival.

In the 18 games that he has been in charge of at Dynamos and Kwekwe United, the two clubs never scored more than one goal in all their matches.

And, on the two occasions that they won, against Yadah and Bikita Minerals, it was by 1-0 scorelines.

His biggest losses this season have come against Highlanders (0-4) and ZPC Kariba (0-5).

His overall statistics in charge of both clubs make up for some sorry reading – 18 matches played, two wins, eight draws, eight defeats, seven goals scored, 26 conceded and 14 points gained out of a possible 54 points.

To put it into context, Chaminuka has lost 40 points in the 18 matches in which he has taken charge of Kwekwe United and Dynamos.

And, rather than seeing his technical and tactical flaws, Chaminuka keeps trying to divert attention and blame the referees for his team’s losses.

The problem with him is that his silly excuses are beginning to have the same ringing tone.

When Kwekwe United lost 1-2 to Simba, he blamed the referee.

“I think a team that is preparing for the Champions League should be winning games fairly. Sometimes you fail to understand where you get it wrong because certain people decide who wins the game.

“It’s sad and unfortunate that they rob you at home. When you go away, they rob you again.”

On Saturday, after falling to the same Simba Bhora, this time as Dynamos coach, he was back playing his favourite song.

“It’s unfortunate that you end up being painted as a bad loser, but in most of the games we have lost, it’s always the match officials deciding matches.

“So what are we saying here? Are we playing a game where we don’t know the rules? Is it because we don’t know this game that we are treated like this week in, week out?”
