TWO years after it hosted its debut edition in Harare, the HKD Music Festival has announced that it is preparing to host its first-ever Bulawayo event, with celebrated South African amapiano act Scotts Maphuma set to share the stage with local stars Freeman HKD, Hulengende, Killer T, and Bling 4.
The event is set to take place on 4 October at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair’s Hall 3.
Founded in 2024 by Zimbabwean award-winning musician Freeman HKD, the HKD Music Festival began as a platform aimed at uniting emerging and established musicians and performers across the African continent. The festival is also supposed to celebrate Zimbabwean sound while providing music lovers across the nation with a premium musical concert experience.
Having brought together over five thousand attendees during its debut edition in 2024, the HKD music festival has continued to expand, enjoying a reputation of being one of Zimbabwe’s fastest-growing and premium music platforms.
The event, a brainchild of Chipaz Promotions, Harris Entertainment, and the HKD brand, is now set to bring its first ever edition to the City of Kings. In an interview, Freeman HKD, who is the face of the HKD brand, said that his fellow collaborators had decided to bring the gig to Bulawayo.
“The event came through Chipaz Promotions and Harris Entertainment. They saw it fit to bring us together for this big event, and I really appreciate the opportunity to perform at the event,” said Freeman.
He said he was honoured to share the stage with Scotts Maphuma, who was now one of the most recognisable names on the continent.
“I feel honoured to share the stage with Scotts Maphuma, a big artist from South Africa, and also with my fellow home artists. I am grateful to the organisers for making this possible,” said Freeman.
He said since this was the first edition of the event in Bulawayo, those billed to perform on the day should pull out all the stops to ensure a historic gig.
Freeman said that they expected nothing less than a bumper crowd as the City of Kings had a reputation for hosting some of the most memorable gigs in the country.
“This is the Bulawayo edition of the HKD Music Festival so people in the city can’t afford to miss this one. People should expect a great show and a good time. We might make history in Bulawayo so come and witness it,” he said.
