adminLONDON — Roy Hodgson will face the boot if his England side flops at Euro 2016.
The Three Lions boss was told by the FA’s new chief executive Martin Glenn he could expect to lose his job if England fall flat in France.
He said: “Roy is a really good manager and he would be the last person in the world who if and I don’t think it will happen, but if we had a bad Euros, he would not expect to be kept on.
“He is a proud man.”
Hodgson wants to stay on and fears doubts over his long-term future could prove a distraction in the build-up to next summer’s tournament.
But Glenn claims talks over a new deal will remain on hold.
And despite England being the verge of qualification, Hodgson (68) is due to head into the Euro finals with his contract about to expire.
Glenn added: “I have spoken to Roy. The air didn’t really need clearing to be honest.
“I had a cup of coffee with him which turned into a few drinks. We are all on the same page.
“It is a bit of a storm in a teacup.
“But I spoke to him about it, the position I thought was clear anyway, so yes the air has been cleared.
“The question for Roy is how do we set Roy up to be as successful as we can in the Euros. What can we do and that is what we plan to do.”
Hodgson’s hopes of extending his reign now rest on his squad finally coming good in a major finals.
Meanwhile, English youngsters have been urged to avoid falling in the Premier League’s “black hole” and to consider gaining experience abroad in order to maintain their development. — The Daily Star.
