A 37-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man is cooling his heels behind bars after allegedly attacking his wife with a hoe handle in a vicious domestic row that left her nursing a deep facial wound.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the unnamed suspect appeared before Tredgold Magistrates’ Court facing charges of physical abuse under the Domestic Violence Act. The incident took place on 28 September 2025 at the couple’s home in Mzilikazi suburb.

The authority did not specify what the altercation was about.
“The accused assaulted his 32-year-old wife, striking her with a hoe handle on the face and inflicting a deep cut,” the NPAZ said. The injured woman reported the matter at Mzilikazi Police Station, leading to the man’s arrest.

He has since been remanded in custody to 14 October 2025 for trial.
The NPAZ condemned the barbaric act and used the case as a reminder that domestic violence remains a serious criminal offence punishable by law.

“Couples are urged to resolve disputes peacefully and report any form of abuse to law enforcement without delay,” read the statement.
The NPAZ reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence, reminding the public that its core mission remains “Combating Crime and Corruption.”

With cases of domestic violence continuing to rear their ugly head in Bulawayo’s suburbs, authorities have renewed calls for communities to speak up and protect victims before tragedy strikes.
Social commentators have also called on churches, community leaders, and families to play an active role in promoting non-violent conflict resolution.
