For this film I would love to have been present when the cast came together for what is called the “first reading-run-through”. There would certainly have been a great number of “Do-you-remember-that-film-we-did-together-twenty years-ago?” and perhaps, more than a few tears.

“The Best Never Rest” will be remembered in years to come as the final film for a great number of Hollywood’s legendary characters. And given their superannuation, it is all the more recommended for its excellence.

Given that Hollywood has always maintained that its films are made by and for the young, here we have an exception that will and deserves to be, long remembered. German-born Bruce Willis, at age 59, is well past the age for a romantic-plus-action leading role. But he carries it off with the kind of excellence from which new-comers can learn.

John Malkovich, at 60, comes trailing a long history of Grade A films, and is perhaps best remembered for the 1987 “The Glass Menagerie”. Coincidentally that film vied for the best honours in that year with Willis’ “Die Hard”.

At age 45, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Welsh-born, would, in my opinion, win any beauty contestant she chose to enter, a long-side 20-year-olds. London-born Hellen Mirren (68), could, in my opinion, pass for a teenager’s mum.

Scottish-born Brian Cox (69), handles his role with the verve and panache of a debut. Nary-Louise Parker won an award for her debut role in the 1972 film “Angels Don’t Cry.”

Antony Hopkins won the Golden Goblet award for his 1968 debut “The Lion in Winter”.
In this current, highly recommended film at Eastgate, the non-cease-action-plot tells of the internecine warfare which rages nonstop among America’s super-spy and counter-spy agencies overseas. Highly recommended to all action fans.
