Holy Mic Poetry hosts comedy show

HOLY Mic Poetry Jam is hosting a show on 1 February at the La Vida Restaurant in Bulawayo to empower upcoming poets through providing them with a platform to showcase their craft.

The initiative is a spoken word event, biased towards poetry. The aim is to give a voice to marginalised individuals like girls, people living with disabilities and school children.

The founder, Chalton Moyo, said they were looking forward to inspiring a number of spoken word artistes.

“The theme of the event is ‘born anew’ which presents a poetic outlook towards making a fresh start to the new year. Our goal as an initiative is to ensure that we give a platform to new and returning poets,” he said.
Moyo indicated that there are a number of talented artistes that will perform at the event.

“We have a great line-up for the event and it entails talented artists like African Daughter, Joel Jokonia, Roamello, D’Juni, Bleu-Ice, Mr Pain, Princess Coslette, Marc, Skhumz and Moonwalker,” he said.
Moyo stated that their goal for the year is introducing new concepts and collaborating with a number of artistes.

“As Holy Mic Poetry Jam, we intend to take poetry to the next level by introducing themes and new concepts for stage performances.

“We intend to collaborate with other hubs and create a bigger footprint and hopefully an entry point to mainstream poetry and spoken word,” he said.
