Home is best: Ex-Mile

BARELY three months after staging his farewell show in Bulawayo, afro jazz musician Ex-Mile has made a u-turn on his decision to relocate to South Africa, saying the move was miscalculated. The up-and-coming musician (real name Xolani Ndlovu) wanted to relocate to South Africa in search of greener pastures because he was finding it difficult to develop his career locally.

“It is very tough to push a music career in Zimbabwe when you are still a budding musician like me. But with hard work and patience, one can succeed in his endeavours so I will be patient,” he said.

Ex-Mile said he would no longer be relocating to South Africa as he feared he would be identified as a South African after succeeding there.

“I gave the idea of relocating to SA a deep thought and realised that home is best for me. I want to be an international artiste, but I do not want to be recognised as someone from SA.

“If I settle in SA and start succeeding in my music career, people will think I am South African like what is happening to some of the Zimbabwean artistes based down south. I want to remain recognised as a proud Zimbabwean,” he said.

Ex-Mile, however, said he would travel to South Africa soon to stage shows and record his music there. He has already identified studios that could help polish up his songs.

His past in the entertainment scene is full of success records.

Last year, he released his debut album titled Bangaxabani which was received well by fans because of its acoustic feel.

In 2008, in his quest to realise his potential, he was among the top five finalists for the CBZ A-Academy competition.

As if that was not enough, in 2012 he was one of the best three voices in the Starbrite talent show.

Moreover, he was also selected as one of the best performers at the 2013 Harare International Festival of the Arts.

The young musician has shared the stage with various artistes such as Willis Wataffi, Family Voices and Jeys Marabini.
