ENGINEER Tafadzwa Muguti has chronicled how he left his job as a CEO of a company in South Africa and packed his bags to return home to serve his country.

Eng Muguti is the Secretary for Presidential Affairs and Devolution in the Office of President and Cabinet.

He addressed scores of guests at the closing ceremony and dinner at the South Africa-Zimbabwe Business Expo Awards held in Sandton, Johannesburg, last weekend.

He urged them to always explore business opportunities back home and to play a part in developing the Zimbabwean economy.

“Like the Biblical Nehemiah I had to pack my bags and leave a plush job here as a CEO in South Africa to work for my people back home in Zimbabwe.

“When you seek to do good, some will tell you it cannot be done. I tell you tonight, it can be done, come and invest at home,” said Eng Muguti.

The business expo is the brainchild of Zimbabwe In Diaspora Organisation (ZIDO)’s Blessed Kapesa and recognises excellence in business and social circles in the diaspora.

This was the inaugural event in South Africa and had the backing of the Zimbabwe Consulate in Johannesburg.

“For an initiative that is just starting, this is a very good start. We hope next year we will have more and more Zimbabweans who are in the agriculture and production sectors in South Africa.

“We had more of those in the service industries. Overall, it has been a brilliant Expo,” said Zimbabwe Consul-General Eria Phiri.

Minister of Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Hon. Misheck Mugadza and his Mashonaland East counterpart Honourable Itayi Ndudzo also attended the event.

The day started off with an expo at the Gallagher Estate in Midrand where over 30 companies exhibited their products and services.

They ranged from big organisations to start-ups.

Rosemary Consulting Services SA, Exclusive IT Solutions, Dumfard Property Developers, Taulo Black Security and Snowflake Technologies exhibited at the Expo.

The big guns included Zororo Phumlani and Nyaradzo Financial Services.

Mukuru, Hello Paisa and Yamuro also exhibited at the Expo which also attracted ZimTrade and the Kempton Park Apostolic Faith Mission Church.

“While doing business there is the spiritual side that needs to be taken care of.

“We thought it was prudent that we are part of this expo to provide the spiritual guidance that businesspeople need,” said Tendai Munemo, the senior pastor of the AFM Shona Assembly in Kempton Park.

Nyaradzo Group scooped the best Zimbabwean brand award.

Musician Nox Guni was named the best musician in the diaspora.

Nyathi Family won the best social media influencers while Moreboys Munetsi’s Great Hope Funeral scooped the best excellence in insurance services award.

Tapiwa Mutsikira of Namasaya Interiors walked away with the Inspiring Diaspora Returnee award.

Windsor Funeral Support Group won the Community Organisation Award.
