Home seeker conned, loses thousands of dollars

Paidamoyo Bore

A HOME seeker claims to have lost thousands of dollars after another woman sold her a stand, which belongs to the State.

Phillipa Mhembere reported the matter to the police after she realised that she had been duped.

This led to the arrest of Joyce Mandishona, who had sold the stand.

Mandishona was brought before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure on charges of defrauding Mhembere.

She was advised to deposit $50 000 as bail.

The State said sometime last year, Mandishona told Mhembere she was selling a stand in Stoneridge, even though she knew that the stand did not belong to her.

It is alleged that Mhembere then deposited US$3 400 as part of the payment after agreeing with Mandishona.

Investigations carried out by the police showed that the stand was not supposed to be sold.

Mhembere did not recover anything from Mandishona.

Grace Mugocheke led the State.
