A Harare home seeker lost thousands of dollars to a man who pretended to be selling a residential stand.
Peter Mubare appeared in court for allegedly duping Janet Mutasa of US$4 000.
Mubare was granted $100 000 bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi. He will be back in court on May 17.
It is alleged that sometime in September last year, Mutasa was looking for a residential stand and was told that Mubare was selling one in Eastview. After signing an agreement of sale, Mubare was paid US$4 000 for the stand.
After a month, Mutasa went to the stand and was surprised to find that the stand had already been developed. Mutasa then tried to reach Mubare, who gave endless excuses until he became constantly unreachable.
Mutasa then reported the matter to the police. She managed to locate him leading to his arrest.
Zebedia Bofu appeared for the State.
