Texas FC who are in the US Development League invited Homela for trials last month when Tshintsha Guluva were in that country for the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup.
In an interview from Dallas yesterday, Homela said he looked forward to signing a contract once the two clubs agreed on terms.
“I am doing well here at Texas Football Club and we are going to play for a State Cup which has all the teams from Texas and my new team are the defending champions. I am really settling in well and right now what I am waiting for is the international transfer so that I play in the league.
“Since I don’t have a contract yet I will be playing in these small tournaments. As for the duration of my contract, that will depend on what Texas FC agree with Bantu Rovers,” said Homela.
The 19-year-old former Highfield United player joined Bantu Rovers in February after failing to impress Highlanders alongside Ugandan Harris Kajubi. Legendary striker Peter Ndlovu had recommended both players to Bosso before Bantu Rovers quickly snapped them up.
Kajubi is still at Tshintsha Guluva.
Most Zimbabweans who have moved to play soccer in America like Mkhokheli Dube, Joseph Ngwenya, Methembe Ndlovu and Mubariki Chisoni started at colleges and went on to make waves in that country’s Major Soccer Leagues.
Homela said he was ready for the challenge.
“I know I have to study hard and make sure that I balance school and soccer. I am grateful to Bantu Rovers who gave me this opportunity to learn at the same time playing soccer. I hope to make a name this side and use this opportunity as a stepping stone to major European leagues,” said Homela.
A number of Bantu Rovers players were supposed to have remained in United States last month but are expected to go back after attaining five O’ level passes.
Repeated efforts to get a comment from Bantu Rovers’ spokesman Wilbert Sibanda were fruitless as his mobile phone was not available and the office personnel referred all questions to him.
Bantu Rovers’ Marvellous Nakamba is trying his luck at Belgium’s Cercle Brugge which is home to former Highlanders star Honour Gombami. Cercle Brugge is in the Pro League and this is the second time Nakamba is attending trials at the Belgian club.
