Homeless man jailed 10 months for stabbing passerby

A 33-YEAR-OLD man of no-fixed abode has been sentenced to an effective 10 months in prison for assaulting a passerby in Chegutu.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred on March 13, 2026, at around 3pm in Pfupajena Township, when the victim was on her way to church and met the offender.

The man suddenly attacked the woman and stabbed her on the shoulder and thigh before members of the public intervened and rescued her.

The man was convicted at the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to 13 months in prison, with three months suspended for five years.

In a statement, the NPAZ urged members of the public to shun violence and resolve disputes peacefully, warning against senseless acts that endanger lives.

“Members of the public are urged to live in harmony and desist from senseless acts of violence that are avoidable,” read the statement.
