A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Rusape has been jailed for a year after being convicted of two counts of theft.

The Rusape Magistrates’ Court handed down the conviction.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Zhanero Magirazi broke into a house on March 19, 2026, and stole an Itel S130 cellphone.

The following day, he stole five aluminium pipes from Mutare State University Farm in Rusape. The stolen property was later recovered.

“Investigations led to the arrest of the offender and all the stolen items valued at US$200 were recovered,” read the statement

Magirazi was sentenced to 18 months in prison, with six months suspended for five years, leaving him to serve 12 effective months behind bars.

The NPAZ urged members of the public to desist from crime, stressing that legal ways are always available.

“The courts will not hesitate to punish those who resort to criminality. Citizens must seek lawful means of livelihood.”
