THOMAS CHIDEU, the former Highlanders and FC Platinum forward, has revealed that he is homesick and wants to play in the domestic Premiership again next season.
The 28-year-old forward is currently unattached after the expiry of his contract with Clube Ferroviario de Beira from Mozambique.
He netted eight times in 14 fixtures during his brief stint with the 2023 Mozambican champions.
The forward left the country nine years ago when he made his first foreign league breakthrough after impressing the coaches at South Africa’s Ajax Cape Town.
Chideu also played for Golden Arrows in Mzansi before moving to Zambia where he featured for Forest Rangers and Power Dynamos. He played for Bosso, FC Platinum and Harare City here at home.
But, he never lasted more than six months with all the local teams.
He left the Sunshine Boys without kicking a ball in 2021, after impressing Forest Rangers, during the CHAN tournament.
Chideu also won the 2019 Castle Lager Premiership championship with FC Platinum.
“I have spent the better part of my career playing outside the country. It is something which makes me feel good because it is not easy to play in a foreign land.
“You have to be at your best all the time and, naturally, you’re restricted from being seen at some places when the team is performing badly.
“This also helps you to restrict yourself from unnecessary distractions and it is a blessing in disguise.
“But, you get to a point where you start thinking about playing at home.
“And, that has been my wish for next season to play a full season in the Castle Lager Premiership, even if another foreign team comes before I make the move.
“I will be hurt if I fail to get the chance to play a full season in the domestic league,” said Chideu.
