SOUTH African actress Dawn Thandeka King is set to be honoured at this year’s Imiklomela kaDakamela Cultural Festival, which will be held at Chief Dakamela’s homestead in Nkayi, Matabeleland North, from April 3 to 6.
Originally from Eshowe, KwaZulu Natal, King is a celebrated, multi-award-winning actress, musician, motivational speaker and influencer, widely recognised for her commanding performance as Mkabayi in the epic series Shaka iLembe. She has also starred in popular telenovelas such as Uzalo and Lockdown, among others.
She has confirmed her attendance at the festival, where she will receive an uMklomelo (Recognition Award) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the arts, cultural representation and social impact through her work in film, music and public advocacy.

One of the festival organisers, Ntando Ndlovu, said Thandeka King’s participation would elevate the event’s continental profile while highlighting the vital role of arts and storytelling in preserving African identity. He added that her appearance in Nkayi would attract wider media attention and strengthen cultural exchange between Zimbabwe and South Africa.
“Having Thandeka Dawn King as part of this year’s event bridges cultural heritage with contemporary African excellence. She represents a powerful voice in storytelling, cultural identity, and social empowerment.
“Her journey resonates strongly with communities across the region, especially women and youth. Inviting her aligns with our goal of positioning Imiklomela kaDakamela as both a heritage platform and a space that celebrates modern African icons who inspire society,” said Ndlovu.
Preparations for the festival, Ndlovu said, are progressing smoothly, with the organising committee finalising logistics, partnerships, programming and infrastructure to ensure a seamless and impactful experience. There is strong interest from traditional leaders, cultural institutions, artistes and international guests, reflecting the festival’s growing prominence.
“This year’s festival will be significantly larger in scale and more diverse in scope. Highlights include increased international participation, expanded cultural exchange activities, enhanced camping and hospitality experiences, high-profile guests, and a more structured awards programme.
“The 2026 edition is designed to position Imiklomelo kaDakamela as a premier cultural event on the regional calendar while remaining deeply rooted in community values,” said Ndlovu.
