The Bible says, “Honour your father and your mother so that your days may be long on earth” — but for one Bulawayo man, those words meant nothing!

A 27-year-old man from Entumbane allegedly turned on his own father in a shocking act of violence, hitting the elderly man with a metal rake over a bag of fresh maize cobs.

Billy Nzombe appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a charge of physical abuse.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody.

Prosecutor Cathrine Kuzu told the court that the accused and the victim, 71-year-old Cleophas Nzombe, are father and son.

The court heard that on March 20, 2026, at around 6.30am, the two had a misunderstanding over a bag of fresh maize cobs.

But what started as a simple disagreement quickly turned ugly.

In a fit of rage, Billy allegedly grabbed a metal rake and struck his elderly father once on the head and once on the left hand.

The court was told that the victim was later referred to hospital for medical examination.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to Billy’s arrest.
