Thousands mourn national hero

Thousands of people have gathered at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, where they have come to bid farewell to national hero Brig-Gen (Rtd)Mzheri.
In attendance are Cabinet Ministers, members of the security forces and mourners from across the province.

National hero’s body arrives

The body of national hero, Brigadier General (Retired) Victor Mzheri Mpandasekwa has arrived at the National Heroes Acre, where a sombre atmosphere envelops the sacred grounds.
As the casket, draped in the national flag, is carried with great reverence, family members, friends, and dignitaries stand united in grief, reflecting on the profound impact Brig-Gen Mzheri had on the nation.
His life of service, dedication, and sacrifice resonates deeply within the hearts of those present.

President Mnangagwa has arrived at the National Heroes Acre for the burial of national hero Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mzheri.
As the burial proceedings commence, heartfelt tributes and memories shared will celebrate not only his military achievements but also the personal qualities that made him a beloved figure among his peers and the citizens he served.

Official programme begins

The Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Cde Kazembe Kazembe has taken to the podium to direct today’s programme and is addressing mourners who are gathered at the National Heroes Acre.
Cde Kazembe begins by expressing his condolences to the family and friends of the late national hero, reminding everyone of the significant sacrifices Mzheri made for the country. His words resonate deeply, setting a tone of reflection and gratitude as the crowd prepares to pay tribute to a beloved figure whose legacy will inspire future generations.
The atmosphere is thick with emotion as he invites speakers to share their memories, ensuring that the essence of Brig-Gen Mzheri is celebrated fully.

Mr Makari Zhou, the late national hero’s uncle has been invited to the podium to address mourners.
He thanks President Mnangagwa and the Government of Zimbabwe for according his nephew national hero status.
Mr Zhou says Brig-Gen Mzheri was a kind and respectful person.
“He believed in hard work and was an honest man.
“My nephew loved his family and country wholeheartedly.”

President Mnangagwa is now on the podium to address mourners.
The President started by experessing his condolences to Brig-Gen Mzheri’s family.
“The late national hero served the Zimbabwe Defence Forces with diligence and professionalism. During his time in service, he won many medals of honour.
“The late Brig-Gen Mzheri will always be remembered as one of the most decorated military officers produced in this country.
“Tinokutendai nekurakidza ruzhinji tsika dzakanaka dzemuuto. Masiya gwara rakanaka kune vechidiki.”
