A well-known clerk in the sheriff’s office at Masvingo High Court got a rude awakening after a commercial sex worker whom he had hired for the night stole his cellphone in Rujeko suburb.

Brighton Makuvise (34) is alleged to have fallen asleep after sex and Lilian Nhiringi (32) seized the opportunity to steal his Samsung Galaxy cellphone worth $200. Nhiringi pleaded not guilty to theft charges when she appeared before Masvingo magistrate, Mr Peter Madhibha, last Thursday. She had been jointly charged with Maidei Tarusenga who was later exonerated for lack of evidence. Nhiringi was remanded in custody to tomorrow for trial. The prosecutor Mr Edmond Mapope told the court that on May 30 this year at around 0200 hours, Makuvise hooked up with Nhiringi, a self-confessed commercial sex worker, at a drinking spot in Rujeko at Mary Me Beerhall.

The court heard that Makuvise was charged $10 by Nhiringi for her services.
