ALL is set for Hope Masike’s mbira hymns night at Alliance Franchise on March 30.

Masike will be supported by veteran guitarist and music producer, Clive “Mono” Mukundu.

Mono was happy to announce that he will be featuring in the mbira session.

“I’ll be featured on some tracks, including Nguva Yakanakisa.

“We will also add Mwari Muri Zuva Redu, remember we did a jam session of the song late last year.

“It’s one of the most requested Monolio Studios jam sessions,” he said.

Mono, alongside his son Takakunda and Dereck Mpofu, did a rendition of Jah Prayzah’s song tilted Nyeredzi, from Shona to Ndebele.

“The song was too lovely to go untranslated.

“Hence, we made the decision to create a Ndebele version.

“Dereck later added extra voices to the vocals to create a choral effect, thus all the voices you hear are the result of a one-man choir.

“Therefore, ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present Inkanyezi, which Mukudzei Mukombe composed as Nyeredzi,” he said.

Mono is master of a variety of Zimbabwean guitar styles, including museve, mbira/chimurenga, Afro-jazz and gospel, in addition to blues, rock, and pop.

In 2001, Mono pursued a formal education in music and enrolled at the Zimbabwe College of Music.

He learnt to play the mbira and marimba, graduating with a national certificate in music.

Mono was given an award for Best Guitar Student and paid back all the study fees he had paid during his two years there.
