SEVEN people were killed and 15 others injured in a horror three-vehicle pile-up along the busy Masvingo-Beitbridge highway in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The deadly crash occurred at the 175km peg at around 2:45am and involved a Yutong bus, a Toyota Aqua and a Toyota Dyna truck.
According to police, the Yutong bus, which had 48 passengers on board and was heading towards Beitbridge, collided head-on with the Toyota Aqua that was travelling towards Masvingo. Moments later, a Toyota Dyna truck, also heading towards Masvingo, rammed into the wreckage.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident involving three vehicles, a Yutong bus, a Toyota Aqua and a Toyota Dyna truck, which occurred at the 175km peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on 12 September 2025 at 0245 hours,” police said in a statement.
The impact was devastating, killing seven people instantly.
“Two passengers from the bus, three occupants from the Toyota Aqua including the driver, and two occupants from the Toyota Dyna including the driver died on the spot,” the statement read.
Thirteen bus passengers and two passengers from the Toyota Aqua sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Police said investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the crash.
“More details will be released in due course,” added the police.
The Masvingo-Beitbridge highway, a vital route linking Zimbabwe to South Africa, has claimed numerous lives over the years, sparking fresh calls for motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid reckless driving.
