Women and children in Mt Darwin are set to benefit from the services of a health institution specifically designed for them. Mooted by Australia-based Zimbabwean nurse Ms Ruth Pasi Magodo, the proposed 100-bed hospital is designed to cater for specific needs of women and children.

In an interview yesterday, Ms Magodo said she was pained by the fact that many women and children were dying without accessing health services owing to financial hindrances or unavailability of institutions.

“Out there in Australia, people live longer; they live longer because they have access to better health facilities to take care of their needs. It is therefore, my dream to see the people of Zimbabwe living longer as they access affordable and quality health care, particularly the women and children,” she said.

Ms Magodo said with assistance from her Australian friends and other partners in Zimbabwe, construction of the hospital would start soon.
She said they had been allocated land in Dotito and she hoped to establish similar institutions across the country.

Mrs Magodo hosted a fundraising dinner dance in Harare which attracted many corporate and individual donors.
