The inaugural BancABC Roots Impact Leagues got underway in Bulawayo on Saturday, with the host province making a dream start after edging Midlands Province 1-0 at White City Stadium.

Bulawayo claimed maximum points in their opening match to kick off their campaign on a high as the country’s top Under-14 and Under-16 talent began competing in the new Zifa youth development programme.

The competition, which officially started on Saturday, forms part of the BancABC Roots Impact Programme, a nationwide initiative aimed at creating a structured pathway for young footballers through organised competition, talent identification and player development.

The leagues bring together provincial select teams from across Zimbabwe following a five-month talent identification exercise conducted by provincial technical teams.

Bulawayo will now look to build on their opening victory as the tournament continues over the weekend, with scouts and coaches closely monitoring the country’s next generation of football talent.
