Two cousins allegedly set ablaze a relative’s house with four children inside following an undisclosed family feud. The children are aged seven, four, two and one, the court heard.
Chris Chitsike (23) and Florence Marimira (24), both of Epworth, poured paraffin on the children’s bedroom as they were sleeping before setting it on fire.
The pair appeared before magistrate Mr Milton Serima on Wednesday charged with four counts of attempted murder. They were remanded in custody to December 3 for trial and Mr Serima advised them to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Miss Sharon Mashavira alleged that on November 2 at around 9pm, the pair went to Jessica Manduna’s house.
Chitsike was carrying a crow bar, hammer and a box of matches while Marimira was carrying a bottle full of paraffin.
Chitsike is alleged to have told Marimira that she had a score to settle with Manduna and that he wanted to kill her.
Marimira budged into the bedroom where Manduna’s children were sleeping and poured paraffin on the bed and inside the wardrobe.
They then set the bedroom on fire. Manduna, who was sleeping in another room, screamed for help prompting her neighbours to rush to the scene and managed to save the children from the inferno.
