About 3,000 teachers from Mberengwa District are set to benefit from the Zimbabwe Housing Project (ZHP) stand allocation scheme, an official has said.

The ZHP regional manager Jameson Museke said teachers would pay $2,000 for each of the stands.

Museke said the scheme was open to other people who were not teachers.

“Our project is also open to other corporate groups apart from teachers,” he said.

Museke said beneficiaries could pay in instalments from as little as $55 per month.

“Each stand is 200 square metres and they’re in Fortune Park and Tererai high density areas at Mberengwa centre,” said Museke.

Museke said 400 teachers had already benefited from the scheme.

“The beneficiaries can deposit $55 per month until they raise $1,000 when they would be allocated a stand. The balance would be paid while development of the stand takes place,” he said.

Museke said Mberengwa District had about 3,000 teachers.

“This is in line with our goal which is premised at turning the Mberengwa Business Centre into a town,” he said.

“I believe we’re on the right track as the response we’re getting from our target group is quite positive.”

Museke said judging from the positive response, plans to turn Mberengwa into a town would succeed.

In October last year the ZHP allocated more than 2,000 residential stands to the Mberengwa community.
