Housing, schools boost for Bindura

Bindura Municipality plans to build 100 houses by the end of March this year, as part of a deliberate programme to achieve quick-win outcomes, that positively impact on the livelihood of the people.

The local authority is also targeting to construct two new primary schools, whose sites have already been identified. Speaking during the Strategic 100 Days Provincial Planning Workshop held in Bindura recently, Bindura town clerk Mr Shangwa Mavesera said part of the money to build the houses and schools had already been secured.

“Bindura Municipality has since set targets to build at least 100 houses by the end of March,” he said. “We also want to establish two new schools and the sites have since been identified.” By the end of March, no commuter omnibuses and vendors will be allowed to operate in the central business district (CBD), as alternative vending sites and ranks will be constructed.

“We want to construct markets for about 350 vendors and also four ranks for kombis,” said Mr Mavesera. “The kombis would only be allowed to pick and drop passengers.” The local authority is mulling turning Chipadze Beerhall into offices for the convenience of the public. A new cemetery is set to be established in the town, while 150 bins would be installed.

Last week, Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Advocate Martin Dinha, who was guest of honour at the workshop, directed heads of Government departments in the province to submit a list of quick-win projects that could be achieved within the next 100 days.

“I want to direct every provincial head of ministry or department or parastatal to submit to my office a list of attainable Zim-Asset quick-wins set to be achieved within the next 100-day time frame,” Adv Dinha said. The challenge, Adv Dinha said, was to rebuild the country. Adv Dinha said there was need for stakeholders to work as a team.

“Therefore, I exhort all department heads to be pragramatic in the execution of Zim-Asset policy agenda through demonstration of commitment and dedication towards economic recovery and growth,” he said.

“To that end, my office shall play an oversight role on the efficiency of each and every department or parastatal in achieving Zim-Asset’s Ten-Point Plan within their respective areas of speciality. In light of the foregoing, whatever we do, or choose not to do as Government officials must be intended to benefit all our people in Mashonaland Central.” Developmental projects in the province, said Adv Dinha, would be premised on mining and agriculture, including luring investors.
