Hove elected Midlands pool chairman

SENGA Pool Club chairman Vandirayi Hove was on Saturday elected Midlands League chairman.
He shrugged off the challenge of former chairman Edward Ganyani in a tightly contested race.
Hove polled 40 votes to Ganyani’s 36 and now has the mandate to take charge of the affairs of pool in the league for the next two years.
In his acceptance speech Hove pledged to work for the good of the sport. He said he would fight to have the leisure sport recognised by the government.

“This is the biggest league in the country in terms of affiliated teams and as such we want to re-organise ourselves and make sure that we secure sponsorship from the corporate world.

“However, that can be achieved if the government comes into the picture and start to support the sport. Actually pool is now the second most popular sport in the country after football and we are going to lobby the national pool body to make sure that government recognises pool as a big sport. We want to meet the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture so that we map the way forward,” he said.

Mark Kunaka will deputise Hove after beating outgoing vice-chairman Lloyd Chiyangwa and Garikai Muyedziwa.
In other results the founding chairman of the league Passmore Gutu retained the secretary-general’s post after beating Jacqueline Chipwanyira 39 votes to 35 while outgoing chairman, Paul Mukwembi landed the treasurer’s post after outpolling businessman Kudzai Manhambo.

Long serving fixtures secretary Passmore Ndebvu easily retained his post after polling 55 votes to Clever Gwengwe’s 17.
