Youth organisation Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Youth Action (ZEYA) who made waves in 2012 with their unique overalls designs which are emblazoned with President Robert Mugabe’s signature, have come up with a new initiative of planting 10 000 trees across the country to commemorate the President’s birthday on February 21.
ZEYA president James Pande said they are trying to prove that youths are not only interested in fashion but in other humanitarian endeavours as well.
“The 21st February movement is a platform for youths to reflect on how they can contribute to national development and this time as young entrepreneurs we have decided to partner with Climate Smart Alliance to launch our Replant Zimbabwe initiative,” said Pande.
The youths are targeting to plant 100 trees in every province as a pilot project with a view to increase the numbers over the coming months.
ZEYA and the Climate Smart Alliance have so far launched several programmes including the Green Schools programme, as well as the Green Homes programme which aim at encouraging communities to follow the example of President Mugabe in planting trees in all possible places.
Meanwhile, the “Youth Building Zimbabwe Hovhorosi Style” project has received a major boost as the co-ordinators of the fashion statement involving multi-coloured overalls have revealed a major sponsorship deal is on the cards to take the designer clothing to other countries in the region.
“Our unique R.G Mugabe styled clothes have attracted attention from Pan-Africanists from other countries including South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and Angola.
“At the moment we are negotiating with youth organisations from these countries to have a franchise deal to supply our products to them,” said ZEYA national chairman Herbert Huruba.
