How Lloyd Mungoni is turning education into entertainment in Beitbridge

LONG before the microphones, the crowded taxi ranks and the busy streets of Beitbridge knew his voice, Lloyd Mungoni had already found his purpose — to make people listen, learn and change.

Where Shona, Ndebele, Venda and traders’ English mix daily in lively conversations, one voice has managed to turn learning into something people actually enjoy.

Lloyd Mungoni, 36, better known on air as “The Edutainer”, has spent the past decade transforming radio shows, school halls and even remote growth points into spaces where education meets entertainment — and where communities are eager to listen.

From Lotsha FM’s popular afternoon shows to vibrant weekend live events, from HIV awareness campaigns to youth mentorship programmes, Mungoni has built a reputation that few media personalities achieve. He does more than entertain — he makes people laugh, think and, most importantly, change their behaviour.

As founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of OnPoint Media, he wears many hats. He is a presenter, master of ceremonies, graphic designer, voice-over artist and brand ambassador. Over time, he has also become a dedicated humanitarian, using his influence to support community development.

“Media was never just about talking. It’s about impact. If people remember the message after the music fades, then I’ve done my job. My inspiration comes from the way I used to admire and listen to radio while growing up.

“I was fascinated by how broadcasters could communicate with people, educate them and keep them informed. Over time, that passion developed into a desire to make knowledge accessible and help people learn, solve problems and communicate more effectively.”

For Mungoni, media has always been guided by purpose. It is not just about being heard, but about making a difference in people’s lives.

He said that his work is driven by a strong desire to solve problems, simplify information and help people reach their goals. Whether he is speaking on air, hosting an event or leading a campaign, he always aims to leave a positive impact.

As “The Edutainer”, he blends humour and knowledge in a way that connects easily with different audiences. His approach has helped him stand out in a crowded media space, especially in a town like Beitbridge, where communication needs to bridge language and cultural differences.

Through OnPoint Media, Mungoni has created a growing brand that offers a wide range of services. These include event management, promotions, advertising, graphic design and voice-over production. The company has become known for professionalism and reliability, earning him opportunities to work on high-profile events.

Over the years, he has facilitated several major functions, including state events attended by the Vice President of Zimbabwe. These experiences have helped cement his reputation as a skilled communicator and organiser.

However, for Mungoni, success is not measured by business achievements alone. His passion for humanitarian work continues to shape much of what he does.

He has worked closely with a number of organisations, including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Information, Zimbabwe Republic Police, International Organisation for Migration, World Vision, International Rescue Committee and Christian Care.

Through these partnerships, he has been involved in community awareness campaigns covering key issues such as public health, social development and community wellbeing.

His work has included programmes focused on HIV awareness, COVID-19 education and other public health initiatives. He has also taken part in community mobilisation projects across Beitbridge East and West, helping to spread important information to people who may otherwise struggle to access it.

In addition, Mungoni serves as a member of the District Risk Communication and Community Engagement Taskforce. In this role, he contributes to emergency preparedness and public awareness efforts, ensuring that communities receive clear and timely information during times of crisis.

His commitment to giving back does not end there. Through OnPoint Media, he has helped to organise various outreach programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable groups.

“These include annual Christmas visits to Beitbridge Prison, where our team organizes activities aimed at encouraging rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society,” he added.

The initiative reflects his belief that communication can be used not only to inform but also to restore hope and dignity.

His company has also partnered with the Municipality of Beitbridge, the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other stakeholders in campaigns targeting social challenges such as drug and substance abuse as well as gender-based violence. These efforts are especially visible during the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, where awareness campaigns are intensified.

Despite his growing influence and success, Mungoni remains grounded. He continues to draw inspiration from figures he admires, both locally and internationally.

“Internationally, I am inspired by Steve Harvey because of the way he uses communication to motivate and uplift people. Locally, I have learned from media personalities such as Ndumiso Dube and others in the broadcasting industry. I am also inspired by Kanyemba Bhobho, whose work continues to motivate me,” he said.

These influences have shaped his style — one that combines humour, motivation and meaningful communication.

Today, Lloyd Mungoni is more than just a media personality. He is a bridge between information and the people, between entertainment and education, and between awareness and action.

In a town known for its busy borders and constant movement, “The Edutainer” has created a steady voice — one that informs, inspires and brings people together.
