WHEN Maskandi artiste Umazakhel’okwakhe (real name Sithandweyinkosi Dlodlo) met Skyz Metro FM’s DJ Mjox, her life would not be the same again.

This meeting would be the birth of her music career as the DJ helped her record her first project with four gospel songs.

“In 2002, I met Mjox and managed to record my gospel EP titled Khuluma Nami at his studio.

It was my first time in the studio and it was such a surreal moment for me. From there, I never looked back,” said Umazakhel’okwakhe.

The Bulawayo-born and Lupane-bred artiste is now based in South Africa where the origins of the genre are from.
She has released a 10-track album titled Vuka Mthwakazi and it is a mixed bag of subject matters.

“My new album has a lot of themes that include love, respect, gratitude, my parents and life in general.

-believe it’s my springboard to greater things in the industry as I’ve set sights on working with artistes from other African countries to widen my fan base,” she said.

The album, recorded at Sbanie Studios consists of songs Emaguswini, Osobancane, Uthando lwakho and Izitha, to name a few.

The traditional music artiste has in the past worked with Khuyane, the late Inkunz’eliganu, Maskandikazi, Ziyamkhwelezela, Tshwalabenyoni and Sbanie.

Quizzed on which artistes she wants to work with, Umazakhel’okwakhe would not want to spoil the “surprise and give away too much” but she promised her fans upcoming projects worthy of their time. – @eMKlass_49.
