WITH one leg in the Caf Confederation Cup first round, Zimbabwe’s representatives in the competition, How Mine, yesterday wound up their preparations with a workout at Gwanzura ahead of their scheduled departure for Zanzibar this afternoon. How Mine thrashed the Zanzibari side Chouni FC 4-0 at Barbourfields last weekend with Kuda Musharu scoring a brace, while Warren Dube and Menard Mupera added a goal each.
Now the Bulawayo side are scheduled to leave this afternoon for East Africa, hoping to finish off their opponents and book a place in the first round.
How Mine arrived in Harare yesterday morning before they held a training session in the afternoon at Gwanzura under the guidance of their coach Philani Ncube.
Club chairman Mlondolozi Nkomo said they remain focused on winning their reverse tie despite the comfortable advantage and have warned their players against complacency.
“At the moment the boys are just excited at going for the second leg, but we have told them not to allow complacency to creep in.
“We have to remain focused and work hard,” said Nkomo.
The Chikurupati boss said they are expecting to leave Harare at around 3pm and connect to Zanzibar from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
“We are leaving on an Ethiopian Airways flight and then stop-over in Addis Ababa before going to Zanzibar.
“At the moment we do not have details of where the match will be played,” said Nkomo.
Nkomo said How Mine players could be arriving in the early hours of Friday and train there twice.
“I hope our players will get some rest and the coach is planning to hold two training sessions — one in the morning and another later in the afternoon at the match venue.”
Although How Mine are making a maiden appearance in the African Safari as a team, the club is made up of experienced journeymen such as Herbert Dick, Nyasha Mukumbi, Mupera, Ephraim Mazarura and George Magariro.
