HOW Mine players who boycotted their midweek match against Dynamos returned to training yesterday ahead of their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash against Bantu Rovers at Barbourfields Stadium today.
The players attended yesterday’s training session at the Old Mutual Heath Streak Academy and then attended a meeting with the some members of the club executive and the recently appointed Bulawayo Mining Company managing director Demand Gwatinetsa.
Only midfielder Marvelous Mukumba and Praise Tonha have been ruled out of today’s encounter by reasons which have nothing to do with the strike.
Mukumba was given compassionate leave to attend a memorial service while Tonha is not well. How Mine chairman Paul McAndrew was optimistic after yesterday’s meeting which he described as being fruitful with all the matters having been sorted out.
“We had a good meeting, ironed out whatever issues we had, we are looking into the future with a much stronger unit, the team is back to full strength.
They were at training, we have thrashed out all issues and we are ready to go. We are back to normal. The meeting was an opportunity for us to sit down,’’ said McAndrew.
How Mine players boycotted their match against Dynamos last Thursday which the Glamour Boys won 6-0 last Thursday. It has turned out that the players are owed one month salary and winning bonuses for the nine victories they have notched up so far this season. The club pays each player $300 for a win and $150 for an away draw. This means the gold miners owe an average of $3 000 to every player who has made it to the final squad of 18 in those nine wins and the draws secured away from home.
