DESPITE Zimbabwe finally hosting the inaugural Miss World Heritage last weekend at Harry Margolis Hall in Harare, the country representative failed to make it in the top five.Zimbabwe which was represented by Sibusisiwe Mazibuko only managed to make it the top 10 while the coveted crown went to Bahamas beauty queen Shaquera King who walked away with US$3000.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment the pageant chief judge, Culvin Mavunga said Mazibuko failed because she wasn’t properly groomed.
“I think she has the potential and the right attitude for pageants, good height and many other attributes but she wasn’t well prepared,” said Mavunga.
Mavunga said the pageant was too big for her.
“We can’t blame her as she only came on the 11th hour after Miss Heritage Zimbabwe winner Thabiso Phiri dropped last minute due to exam pressure. It was a hectic start for her and considering the twists and turns of the pageant, it is belived that she suffered the most psychologival as she had to carry and paint a positive image of the country,” he said.
Mavunga said the podium was too big for her and her finishing in the top 10 was an imperative achievement.
Another judge of the night former model and entrepreneur, socialite Vanessa Chiyangwa-Chironga said Mazibuko did not have ‘wow’ in the pageant.
“Our own model did not have that wow- impression factor. Being on your own turf doesn’t always qualify you as someone that stands out. Competing with international beauty means you have to up your game and actually work harder at your presentation and the question and answer.
I am glad that she sailed well through that segment. Competing with a few of the worlds beauties that exude confidence, stature and the poster girl face of such a competition needs more than just a pretty face and great answers. The audience will always want to be entertained and wowed but for me she didn’t have that,” she said.
However Mazibuko said she is not blaming anyone for failure but herself.
“I lost it all on the talent show as I didn’t impress the judges. I had a bad start on the talent show. I could say I didn’t really prepare myself well but I did my best,” she said.
Mazibuko’s garments were designed by Patreace of which the nightwear shocked the crowd as it didn’t suit her well.
Asked on they picked Mazibuko to represent the country on such short notice, pageant director Tare Munzara, said they had casting and she had highest marks.
