AFTER registering their first win of the season last weekend, TelOne are now targeting to build on that victory to gather momentum to revive their stuttering campaign.

It feels like a restart, a recalibration of everything at the Gweru side after they parted ways with their previous coaching department.

This saw the coming in of seasoned coach Saul Chaminuka as Herbert Maruwa’s replacement together with former Dynamos midfielder, Philemon Mutyakureva joining as assistant to Chaminuka.

Peter Masibera is the new goalkeeper’s coach taking over from Ndega Matsika, who has also parted ways with the club.

This leaves only Jacob Muzokomba (second assistant) and club captain, Frank Makarati with the institutional memory needed to help steer the club to safety.

TelOne are at home to in-form Hardrock this weekend in a Midlands derby and Makarati is high in confidence.
He reckons there is no room for further slip ups now as the Gweru side has a lot of catching up to do.

“Our next step is to make sure we grind out results starting with our next match against Hardrock,”said the defender.
“What we are fighting for is to get maximum points in every match we play, we need to cover a lot of ground when you look at the points we lost, we can’t keep dropping points.

“Getting our first win has really lifted us in a big way because losing was now affecting the boys mentally but now it feels like a restoration has taken place and we are ready to get going.”

TelOne have lost all their five home matches this season and face an uphill task in arresting that free fall when they host Hardrock at Ascot Stadium.

However, the former Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum Stars defender is adamant that the Wifi Boys’ home record is not a reflection of his troops’ ability.

“To be fair, we have played some of our best football at home despite losing, we have simply been lacking in terms of luck at home, otherwise, this is a very strong team and I do not doubt what we are capable of doing and soon everyone will see how good a team we are,” he added.
