Hubby bashes, bites wife

Court Reporter
A 30-year-old man last Friday admitted to assaulting his wife with a pot on the head and biting her on her right breast when he appeared before the courts. The magistrate, Mr Stanford Mambanje, remanded Vincent Makusha in custody to today for sentencing. Circumstances are that on March 22, around 1am, Makusha came home with his nephew and asked his wife Stella Gwama to prepare food.

The court heard that Gwama complied but before she served the food Makusha started insulting her saying that she was barren and he wanted to divorce her.

Makusha then used a pot to assault Gwama on the head before biting her on her right breast. Gwama escaped but was seriously injured.

Mr Lawrence Gangarahwe prosecuted.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man also appeared in court facing four counts of physical abuse after he seriously assaulted his pregnant wife.

Tendai Chitehwe, however, denied the charges when he appeared before magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma, charged with physical abuse.

Ms Tshuma deferred the matter to April 27 for trial. Chitehwe was granted $100 bail and was strongly warned not to interfere with the witnesses.
