A FAIRBRIDGE woman got the shock of her life when her boozed-up husband stormed home, accused her of witchcraft and prostitution, then turned violent, leaving her teeth rattling in her gums!
A court heard how Terrence Zibgwowa staggered into their home at Fairbridge camp in Bulawayo, clearly drunk and reeking of beer. He allegedly demanded his cellphone from his wife, Susan Zibgwowa.
Susan was dumbfounded because he was clutching the cellphone in his hand.
When Susan pointed out the obvious, Terrence allegedly lost it. Like a possessed man, he exploded, calling her a prostitute and a witch.
Not done with the name-calling, he allegedly threatened to kill her before turning the living room into a boxing ring.
“He slapped me, punched me and kicked me in the mouth. Three of my teeth are still shaking,” Susan told the court.
She rushed to the police and reported the savage beating, leading to Terrence’s arrest.
The drama continued at Bulawayo Magistrates Court where Terrence appeared before magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba facing a charge of physical abuse.
He tried to play innocent.
“I did not beat her up. Yes, we argued fiercely and exchanged harsh words, but I have never laid a hand on her in all our marriage,” he claimed.
Susan had a different version of events.
“He was drunk. He asked for a phone that he was already holding. Then he insulted me and beat me. I honestly thought he was going to kill me,” she testified.
The magistrate remanded Terrence out of custody to 4 August for sentencing.
