A HARARE man approached the Civil Court seeking a protection order against his wife, accusing her of using charms and juju from the “Manjuzu” cult to control him.

Atwell Matemera alleged that his wife, Winny Jonasi, was in the habit of using dark magic and charms to harm him.

“My wife is abusing me. I do not have power since she controls me every time. She has many charms in the wardrobe that attack men at night, claiming that she belongs to the Manjuzu cult,” said Matemera.

Matemera cited an alarming incident when he caught his wife urinating in his food. When he confronted her, she reportedly told him that it was her sacrifice to the marine spirits.

He narrated, with tears rolling down his cheeks, how his wife forced him to drink some herbs which went on to weaken his manhood to the extent that he was unable to enjoy his conjugal rights.

According to Matemera, his wife used baboon urine to boost her business, something that cost him his job.

“I saw her with a man at night, and I lost concentration and felt powerless to confront her. But she told me that she joined Manjuzu to make money with such a man,” Matemera mentioned.

Matemera testified that his wife told him that he was barren and that all their children were not his, and that he was just a placeholder in the house. He also accused his wife of giving her charms to their minor daughters.

Jonasi is also accused of threatening to kill Matemera if he continues to stay in their matrimonial house.

Matemera pointed out that he was being emotionally and sexually abused by his wife since she demands intercourse even after telling him that she is the one who caused the weakness of his manhood.

He said it is emotionally damaging to be insulted in front of the children, adding that his wife promised to shed his blood if he resisted accepting some of her charms.

Matemera told the court that he no longer has sexual desires, even when he tries with someone who is not his wife, while his wife enjoys being with any man she likes.

He claimed that he is being mocked for being a useless man in the neighbourhood since Jonasi has told everyone his story.

Jonasi disputed the allegations, stating that the reason she joined the Manjuzu Cult was that she wanted to boost her business and give her daughters charms to attract rich men.

She revealed that baboon urine is used in the Manjuzu cult to control men’s brains so that they lose focus.

“His manhood does not function at all, and I am not the one who damaged it. That is the reason why I am looking for other men to satisfy me,” Jonasi argued.

Jonasi claimed that she neither assaults nor insults him, but he was after her money.

After both parties presented their testimonies, the court ruled in favour of Matemera, warning Jonasi to stop forcing her husband to eat what he does not know and not to abuse him.
