Fungisai Shoko appeared before the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order against her husband, Christen Chirenje who assaults her and burns her clothes.
She claimed that Christen burns her clothes after arguments, hits her, and chases her out of their home at night.
“Whenever we argue, he burns my clothes.
“He hits me and chases me out of the house in the middle of the night.”
She also said he insults and threatens her with a knife and has introduced his girlfriend to her parents.
“He insults me, calling me a prostitute and useless.
“He sleeps with a knife in his pocket or under the pillow which he uses to threaten me with.
“On Sunday he came to my parents’ house after chasing me away from my matrimonial home in December last year.
“He slapped and pulled off my hairpiece after he had brought his girlfriend and I want to stay with him because he keeps coming to my parents’ house assaulting me.
“He also harasses me and my family cannot handle it.”
Christen admitted to the claims, stating that he still loves Fungisai despite her leaving him last year.
He agreed to the court granting a protection order.
“I do assault her and she left me last year yet l still loved her.
“I have no issues with the court granting her a protection order.”
Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted the protection order, ordering Chirenje to stop harassing and assaulting her.
