THE Zimbabwe Annual Film and Television Awards (ZAFTAs) have included foreign content creators in the second edition of their awards show.
Submissions will run from now to September 10.
The awards are scheduled for November 30.
In a statement, ZAFTA publicist, Richard Tentone, highlighted the growing regional and international interest from international filmmakers.
“This edition is building upon the highly anticipated inaugural awards, which were well received by the industry and audiences.
“We are thrilled to see the growing regional and international interest in this prestigious event.
“The ZAFTAs are evolving into a force to be reckoned with, not just within Zimbabwe, but across the Southern African region.
“The influx of requests from neighbouring countries, such as Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana and Botswana, to participate physically in the event on November 30, 2024, is a testament to the growing reputation and influence of the ZAFTAs.”
He added:
“In response to this heightened demand, the organising committee of the ZAFTAs has introduced three new categories to cater to the international interest: International Feature Film, International Short Film, and International Documentary.
“This move underscores the ZAFTAs’ commitment to fostering a truly inclusive and diverse platform for showcasing the best of African cinema.
“The potential for the ZAFTAs to transform both the tourism and cultural/creative industries in Zimbabwe is truly exciting. We are hopeful that the government, embassies, and the private sector will rally behind this initiative, recognising its immense value in supporting the government’s policies and elevating Zimbabwe’s profile on the global stage.”
The ZAFTAs has also introduced the best film student category for students from any training institution.
