THE Chipinge District Civil Services Commission and education offices on Wednesday were filled to capacity as aspiring teachers across the country thronged the offices in the hunt to fill teaching post vacancies, The Manica Post has learnt.
By 9am long queues were seen at Chipinge Government complex with groups of people comprising qualified teachers, retirees and recent graduates with various qualifications.
The CSC supported by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education set out categories of employment seekers where recruitment was done. An official from recruitment team who declined to be named said recruitment process gives first priority to qualified teachers with diploma and degrees in teaching field followed by those who retired and then those with non-teaching qualifications.
“We are giving qualified teachers a first preference followed by others and we are also advising those who did not make it to leave CVs and particulars so that they will be called in due course when ever vacancies arise,” he said.
Some of the people interviewed on Wednesday expressed mixed reactions on the appointments to fill the vacancies.
Taurai Chimoko of Chimanimani said he was looking forward to securing a job after being instructed that the CSC will call him if a vacant arises.
“Like previous terms the CSC officials call me during the course of the school term to fill a vacant which would have arisen.
“There is no need to panic that today I did not make it,” he said.
Moses Chironga, a recent graduate in Human Resource Management, said he was optimistic that he would secure a teaching post this term.
“It is my first time to submit my qualification forms at CSC and I am looking forward to securing a job.
“I think the process is done here in a more transparent way since many people managed to secure jobs,” he said.
Addressing some unlucky aspiring teachers the district education officer, Mrs Chiedza Beta, said they were waiting for an official nod to fill the remaining posts.
“I think today we have managed to take all primary and secondary teachers present here.
“We are waiting for Treasury for any further recruitment which will be done before opening of schools since we have no authority to declare them vacant,” she said.
