Minister of State for Liaising on Psychomotor Activities in Education and Vocational Training Josaya Hungwe yesterday urged corporates to help those in need as a way of serving their communities. He was speaking during the handover of US$7 000 to a cancer patient Ms Muchanyara Mataruse (34) by the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association (ZAHA).

Doctors had given her 38 days to live if she did not go for chemotherapy Minister Hungwe commended ZAHA director general Cde Killer Zivhu for bailing out Ms Mataruse.

“We ask for other companies to emulate what ZAHA has done,” said Minister Hungwe. “This is a kind gesture and we expect other companies to extend such a hand to the poor.

“Cde Zivhu has become one of the few people in Zimbabwe who recognise the welfare of the under-privileged.”

The donation came in the wake of a story published by The Masvingo Mirror stating that Ms Mataruse needed to undergo chemotherapy after she was diagnosed of Sinonasal Tumour in July last year.

Speaking at the handover of the donation, Cde Zivhu, who is also the chairperson of Chivi Rural District Council, said they felt a desire to join the fight against cancer which has become the biggest killer in Zimbabwe ahead of HIV and Aids.

“As society, there is need to be pro-active and support all initiatives aimed at reducing the deadly effects of this pandemic,” he said.
