Hungwe hails Seed Co

Zanu-PF Secretary for Production and Labour Cde Josaya Hungwe has commended Seed Co for its continuous hardwork in ensuring that the nation has enough seed for farmers to produce grain and boost national food security.

Speaking during a Seed Co tour at Stapleford Depot in Mount Hampden, Mashonaland West, Cde Hungwe said the seed company was doing a good job and if fully supported, the country was assured of food security.

“I am quite impressed by what I have seen and what I have heard from the officers here who are engaging in seed production,” he said.

“We have a mandate to find out from all producers and I thought that we should go to Seed Co first because that is where people get their food. If Seed Co is okay, then the nation is okay.” Cde Hungwe said Government will address producers’ concerns and is prepared to come up with incentives to support the producing companies.

“This time it is Zanu-PF that is spearheading production, so we want to know what concerns our producers have,” he said.

“People who produce are the people whom we are going to support and that we have assured. We want to make sure that people get adequate food  supply.”

Seed Co finance director Mrs Felistus Ndawi said one of the challenges that the business is facing was access to foreign currency.

“We have a huge foreign currency bill because we also import vegetables because they cannot be produced in Zimbabwe,” she said.
