JUST when most music pundits believed local sungura outfit, Hungwe Stars was dead and gone, the six-member group proved they still had something to offer after putting a scintillating performance at popular entertainment centre, Club Mandisa, on Sunday. The band sunk into entertainment abyss last year and had not been staging live shows since the unavailability of front man and bassist, Simba Muchita who shelved guitars and temporarily moved to the Lowveld due to commitments.
The little time he had, Muchita would feature as a bassist to Brian Samaita’s Murondatsimba Express during live shows. Last Saturday, the talented but underrated vocalist thrilled a sizeable crowd that attended the show into ecstasy. He said the group was working on a new album due to be released before end of year.
“Sunday’s performance was a message to our dear fans that the group was raring to go. “We have regrouped and we are raring to go. We are now working on a new project that we intend to release before end of year. “We would like to thank a few promoters in Mutare like Bonifance Nyamanhindi who still have musicians at heart,” he said.
Hungwe Stars now comprises drummer Abilio Dube, Lead guitarist Augustine “Oga” Malunga, Rhythm guitarists Obvious Chadenga and Tawanda Nyika, Vocalists Samuel Chikseka and Tsitsidzashe Munhloza.
