A HUNTER employed at Kalulu Safaris in Victoria Falls has been dragged to court after he left a gun in a hotel room in Bulawayo where he was booked for the night.
A housekeeper found the weapon the following morning after the hunter had checked out of the hotel.
Monika Nkomo, employed at Standard Hotel, notified the police when she found Mariet Mashonganyika’s gun in the room, leading to his arrest.
Mashonganyika, 44, of Matetsi lodge, Victoria Falls, appeared yesterday before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze facing a charge of failing to secure a firearm. He pleaded guilty and was remanded out of custody to February 23 for sentencing.
Prosecuting, Charles Danda said on February 6, this year at around 7AM, Mashonganyika booked into Standard Hotel situated along Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo Street, Bulawayo.
“He slept there for the night and in the morning he checked out of the hotel at around 7AM, leaving behind his firearm on the left side of the bed,” said Danda.
Danda said an hour later Nkomo, who is employed as a house keeper at the hotel, found the pistol whilst cleaning the room and notified the police. The report was received leading to the arrest of Mashonganyika.
