HUNTERS FC’s junior policy continues to impress, as one of their players impressed Zimbabwe Under-23 coach Marc Sanchez, who has drafted him in the provisional team for the upcoming Afcon U23 qualifiers against Mali.

The Nesbert ‘Yabo’ Saruchera-coached youthful side has a reputation for blending youth and experience, and the rewards are coming their way.

Junior Meya is part of the Under-23 provisional team that was announced by Sanchez for the back-to-back qualifiers.

Meya is part of a few locals called up in the defender positions, where he will only be joined by Ngezi Platinum’s Nisbert Muzenda.

Meya is happy with the call-up and said he will repay the faith shown to him if given the chance.

‘I am very happy to be part of the provisional squad, and it showed how hard work pays. I thank my teammates and technical team for the support, and I hope I will give my all.

“Playing for your country is everyone’s wish, and I look forward to more call-ups,” said Meya.

Zimbabwe will face Mali in the second round of the qualifiers, with the West Africans receiving a bye in the first round.

The Young Warriors progressed after defeating Seychelles in the previous round before overcoming Mauritius 6-1 on aggregate.

Captain Corbin Mthunzi is a notable omission from the squad.
