A 70-YEAR-OLD Harare man and his wife have been granted reciprocal protection orders against each other by the Harare Civil Court.

Mr Regment Biraza (70) appeared before the court claiming that his wife, Ms Elizabeth Mawire, was harassing and verbally abusing him.

“I resigned in 2018 from Delta Beverages, and I do not enjoy my benefits,” he said.

He told the court that his wife was domineering and that even her relatives were afraid of her.

“Elizabeth is too powerful. Even her relatives are afraid of her, and she claims that she is a Chihera when insulting me,” he said.

Mr Biraza further told the court that his wife no longer cooked for him and that they were now sleeping in separate bedrooms.

“We are now sleeping in different bedrooms and a person who needs someone will go to the other bedroom,” he said.

He also alleged that his wife and grandchild had assaulted him, leaving him with a leg injury.

“My grandchild even beat me, but my wife is always in support of him even though he takes drugs,” he said.

In response, Ms Mawire told the court that Mr Biraza had been beating her since they got married.

“He even insults me using words that I cannot repeat here,” she said.

She said her husband accuses her of having an affair with her grandson and verbally abuses her when he is drunk.

“He usually insults me when he is drunk. He claims that I sleep with my grandson,” she said.

After hearing submissions from both parties, presiding magistrate Ms Johanna Mukwesha granted a reciprocal protection order barring both parties from harassing and insulting each other. The order is valid for five years, and Ms Mukwesha ordered the couple to live in peace.
