in the Independence Trophy third place play-off that were played at White City Stadium yesterday.
Takesure Chinyama who cancelled Gerald Ndlovu’s 76th minute penalty with a thunderbolt of a free kick turned villain when his penalty kick was saved by Timothy Sibanda to put the Glamour Boys in deficit after David Kutyauripo had tucked in the first penalty.
Hwange’s Malvern Longwe, Ndlovu, Tongai Mamina and Kamunhenga all scored for Hwange.
DeMbare leftback Ocean Mushure scored the third penalty after Chinyama’s miss but it was all for nothing as defender Partson Jaure then hit the woodwork and thereafter Kamunhenga scored to hand the win to Hwange.
The otherwise lacklustre match picked up tempo in the second half with action swinging from end to end as both teams looked for the opener.
The breakthrough came through Farai Vimisai who made a darting run into the Dynamos half and was clumsily hacked down by Kutyauripo leaving referee Brighton Malandule with no option but to point to the spot.
Defender Ndlovu stepped up to send Arubi the wrong way in the 76th minute.
Dynamos responded immediately and brought Martin Vengesai and Denver Mukamba for Murape Murape and Devon Chafa in the 77th minute.
Hwange also brought in Kamunhenga for Vimisai.
Vengesai immediately got into the thick of things as he tormented the Hwange defence and after dribbling through towards goal Chipangano leftback Munyaradzi Mungadze fouled him.
From the resultant freekick Chinyama then scored with a stinger much to the delight of DeMbare fans.
Speaking after the match Hwange coach Tennant Chilumba expressed satisfaction with his charges’ performance.
“It has been two out of two wins so far this season against Dynamos and it is delighting and confidence boosting as we are gunning for the league title this season,” he said.
His Dynamos counterpart Callisto Pasuwa said losing was part of the game but conceded that two losses on the trot was bad.
“This is our second loss on the trot and the second against Hwange and it is not good.”
“We have to work on the team to rebuild their confidence,” he said Pasuwa.
Dynamos were coming from a 1-0 loss to Monomotapa.
